Hot and Heavy

As the temperatures here in DC are climbing up over the 100 degree mark, we have the results in from the latest sonogram, and the news is big. The technician estimated that the baby is already about 9 pounds! Now the reliability of these sonogram based weight estimates is somewhat questionable, and we can add another layer of doubt with the technician's somewhat uncertain metric to english units conversion, but given all the other hints along the way, we're taking this as confirmation of a big addition to our family. Needless to say, Elaine is not terribly thrilled with being 9 months pregnant with a 9 pound Fawcett baby in the midst of one of the worst Washington heat waves in recent memory, but I'm not sure she's quite ready for the alternative. Elaine's Mom is flying into town on Sunday, so right now we're just hoping that both the baby and Elaine are able to stay inside until then.

Elaine, you look beautiful. Really, you both look great. Best to all three of you as you negotiate heat and world entry. Lots of love from here, elise.

Elaine I have a bigger stomach
than that and I am not pregnant.
Enjoy this time of not having
to worry about holding it all
in. You look great and you
both look so proud. You will
be great parents.

Congrats on being so close! My first baby was 9lb9oz, but they had told me I was having an average sized baby just a week earlier. So all I have to tell you is that it is far better to believe you are pushing out a 7 pounder, no matter what they tell you. (Those weight estimates are not really very accurate no matter what they say.) If the child ends up being larger, you will feel like such a hero later, but it will only make the process of labor more nerve racking. No matter what, your body can handle it. So think 7.5lbs and start pushing!

I'm listening to "What's the World Got in Store" by Wilco and prophesying that you are now in labor. If I'm wrong, you have permission to stone me like a jelly roll.

ironically, i work at the department of labor and am currently in the building, so technically, dave, you are correct and therefore avoid the fate of so many jelly rolls before you. however, don't count on having a new niece or nephew in the next few hours as i think we're looking at a longer time horizon.

oh, and beware of the misinterpreted prophesy -- look what became of macbeth.

You're still on track for my own natal day if you hold out for tomorrow...

I'm so easily amused that you're "in labor"... to be 9 months pregnant and still have a sense of humor -- you're a total superwoman, Elaine!

Can't wait to see you soon!
